At the request of the IFPI and the RIAA, we removed the zip file for “You Had Me”. That was a one time deal here at Joss-Stone.net. Don’t expect any more downloads like that. I just wanted to give the fans who have been anticipating new material a hand since not everyone has a fast connection like me and can easily stream online audio. So, from here on out, please visit VH1.com to listen to Joss’ song. My apologies and thanks, for understanding everyone!

SOUL SENSATION READIES ‘MIND, BODY & SOUL’ (S-CURVE RECORDS), THE FOLLOW-UP TO HER GOLD-CERTIFIED DEBUT, FOR SEPTEMBER 28 RELEASE

Add songwriting to the list of Joss Stone‘s preternatural talents. For the past year, the seventeen-year-old soul sensation has been hard at work on ‘Mind, Body & Soul,’ the follow-up to her U.S. gold-certified 2003 release ‘The Soul Sessions,’ which has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. Set for September 28 on S-Curve Records, twelve of the 14 songs on ‘Mind, Body & Soul’ were written or co-written by Joss.

‘The Soul Sessions’ was one of the breakout releases of 2003. This collection of deep soul covers heralded a rebirth of the genre, and it has left anticipation running high for an album of original Joss material.

Little more than a year after emerging to critical raves, Joss Stone is planning a September return with “Mind, Body & Soul.” The set will be the follow-up to the U.K. soul singer’s EP “The Soul Sessions” and her debut full-length album for S-Curve Records. The 14-track album features a dozen songs written or co-written by the 17-year-old artist. Among her writing collaborators were Betty Wright, Lamont Dozier, Salaam Remi and Portishead’s Beth Gibbons.

“Mind, Body & Soul” also features the contributions of guest musicians Angie Stone (keyboards/vocals), Nile Rodgers (guitar) and the Roots’ ?uestlove (drums). As with “The Soul Sessions,” it was co-produced by S-Curve Records president Steve Greenberg, Wright and Michael Mangini.

Music Video Wire recently conducted an interview with Nzingha Stewart. Since she was the director of Joss’ “Fell In Love with a Boy” video, Joss came up in conversation. Read the excerpt below:

“MVWire: The Joss Stone video really looks great, how was it working with her?

NS: It was fantastic! Her being only 16 years old brought up teenage jitters and lots of insecurities like “Am I doing this right?” or “How am I going to look?” But as the day progressed she fell into stride and her confidence kicked in. She was so exciting once she fell into the music. And she was super nice, there were no high demands for things to be super flossy. She wanted the darkness and edgy feel, which was very exciting, and different from anything else you’d see on MTV from a teenage artist.

MVWire: Yeah, it was refreshing to see something new! The scenes were real raw, where did you shoot it?

NS: We shot for a day in Brooklyn, NY at a little club in Redhook.

MVWire: Were there any specifics you had in mind to shoot that day?

NS: I wanted a little bit of a retro feel, like an old Janis Joplin concert footage look with that style of stage lighting. And when we did the transfer we added a monochromatic effect with all yellow. The effect only made the final edit in two shots but just that, with all the back lighting gave me the look I wanted.”
