Joss Stone and her music label believe this is “The Right Time” to give away her new single of that name.

EMI Music is using a multitude of media to cross-promote its soulful young sensation, including television ads for the Gap clothing chain and Cingular Wireless’ ringtone showcase.

Stone’s interpretation of the Lew Herman classic, which was covered by such greats as Ray Charles and Etta James, also will be the music in the retailer’s advertising spots that will be shown on TV and on the Web site.

The four-week campaign kicks off Thursday, when Gap.com begins offering Stone’s recording as a free Windows Media format download in exchange for the consumer’s e-mail address. Store receipts and ads will alert shoppers to the online promotion since each will carry the message, “Get the song at Gap.com.”

Simultaneously, Cingular subscribers will be offered a ringtone of Stone’s recording for a two-week period of exclusivity through the wireless company’s Cingular Sounds pre-release spotlight program. -Reuters

Teen soul sensation Joss Stone has a poor knowledge of music – despite promoting musical educations at the VH1 ‘Save The Music Foundation’ last week. The British singer, 18, joined Rod Stewart, Alicia Keys and John Legend as the star-studded gig in New York City, which raised money for music education in American schools. However when it comes to her own knowledge, Stone confesses, “I can’t really read music, but I learnt about a lot of different artists. “Artists like The Beatles and stuff; we used to have to do projects on them, which was really cool.” (wenn)

British teenage singer JOSS STONE has laughed off reports her 25-year-old boyfriend has committed statutory rape by having sex with her in California when she was just 17.

The age of consent in California is 18 – meaning Stone and singer BEAU DOZIER had to abstain until she reached the milestone two days ago (11APR05).

Dozier’s father, singer LAMONT DOZIER, recently dismissed the suggestion any law had been broken: “She’s a British citizen and the legal age there is 16.

“In the beginning Beau and Joss talked mostly on the phone as she was always travelling. They built up slowly. They were friends for a long time before it went further.”

But Stone cheekily refused to confirm or deny any wrongdoing, when quizzed at her birthday party in New York this week (begs11APR04).

She said, “Well I’m 18 now.”
