Since opening in 1969, Gap has always integrated music into their jeans commercials. Now their fall 2005 marketing campaign hopes to continue this tradition. It will first feature the iTunes Music Store. Customers that head into Gap stores from August 8-31, will receive one free download from the iTunes Music Store online for trying on a pair of their new jeans.

The second phase of Gap’s jeans campaign will incorporate a star-studded line-up of artists to feature songs recorded exclusively for Gap. It features Alanis Morissette, Joss Stone, John Legend, Michelle Williams, Jason Mraz, Keith Urban, Brandon Boyd of Incubus and Liz Phair. Each artist will be performing covers of their favorite artists, with Stone taking on The Beach Boys, Boyd covering Elvis Costello and Williams singing an Al Green tune, all to coincide with their “favorite fit of jeans.”

Customers will be able to obtain a limited edition CD featuring these artists from September 1-17 when they make a purchase of $60 or more at Gap stores or at Gap.com. Gap Marketing EVP Jeff Jones, said, “The relationship between jeans and music is a hallmark of Gap’s identity, so we’re thrilled to team up with iTunes to bring this connection to life for our customers.” – FMQB
